Woodland, grassland, and swampy flats, at altitudes over 900 m. Kosciuszko National Park. ACT and Brindabella National Park nearby. Western edge of the ranges east and south of Cooma. One record from Kanangra-Boyd National Park.
Annual herb to 1 m high. Stems sparsely appressed cottony hairy to hairless. Leaves alternating up the stems, mid-stem leaves 6-12 cm long, to 15 mm wide, upper surface more or less hairless or sparsely appressed-cottony; lower surface more or less hairless, margins entire or coarsely toothed or lobed, with 4–8 triangular projections per side. Upper leaves narrower. Flower heads cylindrical, 5-6.5 mm long, with 25-50 florets, 0 petals, surrounded by mostly 11-14 appressed green bracts. Flower heads in usually 8-60 flowered clusters. Flowering: summer-autumn.
All native plants on unleased land in the ACT are protected.
