Grassy open woodland, low open heath, grasslands, and herbfields, at higher altitudes. Kosciuszko National Park, the mountains to the north, and the ACT.
Perennial herb to 0.4 m high, arising annually from a short rhizome. Stems sparsely hairy to hairless. Leaves alternating up the stems, mid-stem leaves 4–10 cm long, 3–15 mm wide, not dissected, hairless or rough; lower surface green, margins toothed. Uppermost leaves very narrow. Flower heads cylindrical to narrow bell-shaped, 6-8 mm long, about 2.0-2.6 mm in diameter, with 25–60 florets, 0 petals. Flower heads surrounded by mostly 12-14 appressed green bracts. Flower heads often 5–40 flowered. Flowers summer to autumn.
All native plants on unleased land in the ACT are protected.
