Forest and woodland. Kosciuszko National Park, the mountains to the north, and ACT.
Perennial herb to 0.8 m high, rhizomatous. Stems in the lower third bristly, becoming appressed-cottony or hairless higher up. Leaves alternating up the stems, midstem leaves 7-10 cm long, 5–15 mm wide, with 3–5 triangular lobes per side, margins with scattered teeth, bases of the upper-stem leaves with small auricles. Uppermost leaves narrow and appearing entire due to rolled margins. Flower heads 6-8 mm long, cylindrical or narrowly bell-shaped, with 40–60 florets, 0 petals, surrounded by mostly 12–14 appressed bracts. Flower heads in many-flowered clusters, often with 30–100 flower heads per stem. Flowers summer-autumn.
All native plants on unleased land in the ACT are protected.
