Garden escape. Forest and disturbed sites. Tablelands, ACT, the mountains to the west, and Kosciuszko National Park. Occasionally elsewhere.
Perennial herb to about 1 m high. Densely white-hairy. Leaves basal and opposite each other, 3–15 cm long, 10–35 mm wide, tomentose, tips pointed, margins entire. Flowers red to purple, with 5 petals each 12–17 mm long, entire to notched. Flowers in few-flowered clusters. Flowering: spring-summer.
