Weed of lawns and playing fields. Coastal north from Jervis Bay. Occasionally elsewhere.
Introduced annual herb, prostrate. Burrs with many seeds, each seed wingless, hairy at the top, with a spine 2-3 mm long. Stems usually less than 5 cm long. Leaves basal and alternating along the stems, 4-13 cm long, 10-40 mm wide, carrot-like, dissected, sparsely hairy, more hairy near the base, bases sheathing. Flower heads greenish, with 0 petals, more or less globular, stalkless, 5–12 mm in diameter at the seeding stage, forming dense clusters in the centre of the plant. Flowering: spring–summer.
