Weed of lawns and playing fields, distrurbed sites, and rocky areas. Widespread, mainly in the Sydney area and Canberra.
Introduced annual herb, prostrate, rooting at the nodes. Burrs with many seeds, each seed with thin, broad-lobed wings, hairless or almost hairless at the top, with a spine 1.5-3 mm long. Stems branched, spreading or absent, sparsely hairy. Leaves basal and in clusters, 1.5–5 cm long, 5–15 mm wide, carrotlike, dissected, hairy, bases sheathing. Flower heads with 0 petals, 4–10 mm in diameter at the seeding stage, slightly convex, single at the base of each leaf cluster. Flowering: spring–summer.
