Dry forest, woodland, heath, grassy areas, and moist sites. Mainly Western Slopes, tablelands, and ACT. Rarely elsewhere.
Perennial herb, twining on other plants, or sprawling along the ground, to 1m high. Stems and leaves produced annually. Stems cylindrical and hairy at the base of the plant, hairless and 4-angled above. Leaves basal, withering early, produced annually, 10-20 cm long, 1–2 mm wide, threadlike. Flowers with 6 mauve to violet or purple 'petals', each 5-11 mm long. Flowers Winter to Spring.
Family Anthericaceae in NSW.
All native plants on unleased land in the ACT are protected.
