Introduced perennial herb to 1 m tall or sprawling. Calyx teeth blunt. Stems moderately hairy to hairless. Leaves alternating up the stems, compound, with 3 leaflets, each 1.5-6 cm long, 7-35 mm wide, appressed-hairy on both surfaces or on just the lower surface, surfaces sometimes spotted, tips pointed, blunt, or rounded with a small notch, margins virtually entire, stipules fused to the stalks, membranous, veined, and hairy or becoming hairless. Flower heads globular or oval, 14-30 mm long, with more than 100 flowers. Flower heads single or paired. Individual flowers pink or pinkish red to purple, 14-18 mm long, pea shaped, with 5 petals, 2 joined together to form the keel. Flowers mainly Oct.–May.
