Stream beds and along streams. Coast and ranges north from Budderoo National Park near Upper Kangaroo Valley. Occasional farther south.
Shrub to 3 m tall or small tree. Bark smooth to slightly flaky. Leaves aromatic when rubbed, opposite each other, 3.5-9 cm long, 5-15 mm wide, tips pointed, upper surface hairless, lower surface more or less hairless and paler; veins obscure; oil glands very numerous and conspicuous (visible when the leaf is held up to the light and/or by using the macro app on your phone/tablet). Flowers with 5 yellow petals each 6-10 mm long, in 3-s or clusters. Flowers Summer.
