Forest, shrubland, rocky areas, and along streams. Coast, ranges, and the eastern edge of the tablelands.
Tree or shrub to 35 m tall. Bark at first smooth, later papery and shedding in flakes or strips. Young stems hairy, becoming hairless. Leaves aromatic when rubbed, alternating up the stems, often becoming clustered toward the stem tips, 5-14 cm long, 7-30 mm wide, upper surface dark green and hairless, lower surface greyish white and hairy, oil glands scattered (visible when the leaf is held up to the light and/or by using the macro app on your phone/tablet). Flowers yellow, about 15 mm in diameter, with 5 petals, in clusters of 7-15 flowers. Flowers Summer.
