Woodland, grassland, roadsides, and disturbed sites. Coast and ranges. Doubtfully naturalised in the ACT. Occasionally elsewhere.
Perennial herb to 0.6 m tall, growing annually from an underground 'bulb'. Flower stalks slightly zig-zaggy, and hairless. Leaves mostly basal, 7–35 cm long, 7–18 mm wide, strap-like, with 3-5 prominent parallel veins, surfaces hairless, margins entire, tips pointed, base sheathing. Flowers cream, white or pale yellow, with prominent purple or blackish veins, tubular, the tube 10–15 mm long, expanded evenly from the base; with 6 lobes each 15–25 mm long. Flowers in 5–15-flowered clusters. Flowers Oct.–Nov.
