Rainforest margins, grassy areas, wet gullies, and along streams. Coast and ranges north from west of Lake Tabourie.
Perennial herb to about 0.5 m tall, the leaves apearing annually. Stem underground. Leaves alternating along the stem, appearing basal, deeply 3-lobed to more or less triangular, to about 22 cm long, the obes 10–120 mm wide, hairless, shining to dull green. Flowers smelling of faeces to many people. Male and female flowers on the same plant. Spathe green in the lower part, greenish purple in the upper part, the open part about 120 mm long. Individual flowers small, with 0 petals. Flower spike as long as or longer than the spathe, with scattered sterile flowers occupying the entire zone between the male (upper) and female (lower) zones. A purple-black foul-smelling section of the spike above the flowers. Fruit reddish, clustered. Flowers Spring to Summer.
