Where found

Forest margins, grassland, roadsides, wasteland, cultivated areas, and near streams. Sydney area and north. ACT. Rarely elsewhere.

Notes

Introduced perennial herb to 2 m high. Stems 4-angled in cross section, surface smooth, hairy with minute hairs or almost hairless. Leaves opposite each other, 4–10 cm long, about 10–30 mm wide, tips pointed, base slightly winged, margins coarsely toothed, surfaces moderately hairy. Flowers bluish-purple, mauve or lilac, tubular, the tube 2–3 mm long, with 5 lobes. Calyx 5-toothed. Flowers in open branched clusters with long branches ending in a dense spike. Flowers throughout the year.
