Seasonally moist sites in forest and heath.
Perennial herb, sometimes scrambling, stoloniferous, to 0.4 m high. Leaves basal, forming rosettes, and along the stems, 0.4–1.5 cm long, 5–38 mm wide, usually 1–5 times wider than long, hairless or occasionally hairy with sparsely short hairs, bases usually squared off, margins obscurely toothed. Flowers with 5 pale mauve blue petals each 5–8 mm long, the bottom petal with darker veins and with a small green blotch at the base, the lateral petals twisted to about 90 degrees and usually bent backwards. Flowers single. Flowering: September to November.
