Forest, woodland, heath, roadsides, and disturbed sites. Widespread.
Annual herb (occasionally perennial) to 1 m tall. Stems slightly sticky, and more or less hairy and rough. Leaves alternating up the stems, 1.5-12 cm long, 3-30 mm wide, rough hairy, especially on the margins, not sticky, margins entire, tips rounded, pointed, or with a straight mucro. Flower heads 10-55 mm in diameter, with many yellow, rarely white, 'petals', and yellow centres. Flower heads below the 'petals' hemispherical. Flower heads in open few to many-flowered clusters. Flowers most of the year.
