Perennial rhizomatous herb to 1 m high. Stems densely cottony towards the top, otherwide hairless. Leaves alternating up the stems, 3–12 cm long, 3–8 mm wide, hairless or with cottonly hairs on the margins, tips pointed, half stem-clasping at the base. Flower heads 25–50 mm in diameter, with many golden-yellow 'petals' and yellow to orange centres. Flower heads single. Flowers November to March.
