Where found

Dry forest, woodland, grassy areas, and rocky sites. Widespread.

Notes

Annual or short lived perennial herb to 1 m high. Multi-stemmed. Stems sticky, rough, with stiff hairs or minute prickles. Leaves basal and alternating up the stems, 0.5–14 cm long, 0.5–10 mm wide, rough and sticky, tips pointed, margins rolled down. Flower heads with many stiff and dry 'petals', the outermost 'petals' brownish yellow, intermediate 'petals' the longest, shining, bright yellow, centres yellow to orange. Flower heads below the 'petals' 10–40 mm in diameter, hemispherical. Flowrf heads solitary or up to 3 together. Flowers spring to summer.
