Moist or swampy areas, often in heath. Coast, ranges, and occasionally tablelands, north from Ulladulla and south of Eden and Bombala.
Perennial herb. Flower stalks to 0.66 m long, flattened cylindrical. Leaves clustered at the base of the plant, 5–29 cm long, 1–4 mm wide, flat, surfaces smooth; leaf margins pale and warty; sheathing base 2–6 cm long, golden brown or reddish brown or black, not shiny. Flowers yellow, with 3 petals each 5–9 mm long. Flower buds contained within tight oval to oval brownish heads 5–10 mm long, 2.3–8 mm in diameter. Flowers opening one at a time from within the flower cluster, rarely 2 flowers open at the same time. Flowers Dec.–Jan.
