- Spread as spores by wind; leaf wetness to infect.
- Cultural control: cuttings from disease-free trees; collect fallen leaves and burn; tolerant varieties.
- Chemical control: nurseries: chlorothalonil, copper, or mancozeb (protectants); or oxycarboxin or tridimefon (eradicants).
