- Worldwide distribution. On cucumber and tomato as the cause of a major disease; a minor disease on many others. On papaya, occasional loss of fruit yield and quality.
- Spots, angular, brown, 2 mm with yellow halos and white centres that often fall out. Best seen from below. May become larger and merge in wet weather. Spread is by spores in wind and rain.
- Cultural control: none recommended for papaya, but it is recommended not to plant tomato or cucumber near papaya with brown leaf spot.
- Chemical control: chlorothalonil, mancozeb, or copper. Note, tebuconazole is used for black spot.
