Variety of habitats, including dry forest, woodland, and rocky situations. Mostly coast and ranges. Occasional elsewhere.
Perennial herb to 1 m tall. Leaves basal, 3–40 cm long, 1–10 mm wide, bright green. Flowers with 6 'petals' each 4–6 mm long, greenish pink. 'Petals' bent back. Filaments of the stamens with dense white hairs. Anthers white to pale green. Flowers usually 1–9 per node. Flowering chiefly November–February.
