Forest, woodland and grassy areas. Coastal mainly north from the Wollongong district. Otherwise widespread.
Perennial herb to 1.2 m high. Leaves basal, 9–65 cm long, 1–12 mm wide. Flowers usually chocolate scented. Flowers with 6 'petals' each 6–14 mm long, usually more or less purple. Anthers deep pink or mauve to purple, with yellow appendages. Anther filaments not besrded. Flowers in an interrupted cluster up the stem 0–100 cm long and with one flower per node. Flowering: Aug.–Jan.
