Dry forest, woodland, grassy areas, sand dunes, and moist sites. Western Slopes, Kosciuszko National Park, and north of the Hume Highway on the ranges and tablelands. Coastal north of Wollongong. Occasionally elsewhere.
Perennial herb to 0.5 m high. Stems hairy. Leaves in a basal cluster, 3–16 cm long, 3–45 mm wide, surfaces green and silky, margins entire, tips more or less pointed. Flowers bright blue, tubular, the tube 3 to about 5 mm long; with 5 lobes 3–4 mm long. Flower heads hemispherical, 13–25 mm in diameter. Flowering: spring-summer.
