Range of habitats including dry forest, woodland, and grassy areas. Widespread but not common.
Annual or perennial herb, prostrate, sprawling or to 0.2 m tall. Stems often pink. Leaves fleshy, basal, and alternating along the stems, 0.75-5.5 cm long, 2-8 mm wide, almost cylindrical, hairless, bases stem clasping. Stem leaves often absent. Flowers pink, white or purple, with 5 petals, each 3-7 mm long, 2-4 mm wide. Flowers in loose clusters. Flowers Winter to Spring.
Identification to species level of Calandrinia usually requires microscopic examination of the seeds.
