Forest and heath, in damp places. Coast, ranges, and tablelands north of Lake Conjola (south of Jervis Bay).
Shrub or tree to 3 m tall. Leaves aromatic when rubbed, alternating up the stems, 4-10 cm long, 1-4 mm wide, channelled or sometimes flat, margins thickened, lower surface rough. Flower spikes 50-100 mm long, 40-60 mm in diameter, red. Individual flowers with 5 petals. Stamen filaments about 20–25 mm long. Flowers Spring to Summer.
Was Callistemon rigidus. Callistemon rigidus is still listed as a separate species in PlantNET.
