Dry forest, woodland, heath, rocky sites, along streams and moist gullies. Kosciuszko National Park, the mountains to the north, ACT, tablelands south of the Hume Highway, and ranges. Occasionally elsewhere.
Shrub to 8 m tall. Leaves often with sharp points. Bark rough, flaky. Stems hairy, soon hairless. Leaves aromatic when rubbed, alternating up the stems, 2.5-7 cm long, 6-15 mm wide, leathery, surfaces conspicuously and densely gland-dotted. Flower spikes 30-70 mm long, 25–50 mm in diameter, but mostly about 35 mm, cream to yellow. Individual flowers with 5 petals. Flowers Spring to Summer.
Melaleuca pallida in the ACT.
