Forest, river flats and damp creeks, rarely in dry areas. Coast, ranges, and the eastern edge of the tablelands, north from the Nowra district.
Shrub or tree to 15 m tall. Bark papery and flaky, peeling. Stems sparsely hairy, becoming hairless, zig-zagged. Leaves usually aromatic when rubbed, alternating up the stems, 4–14 cm long, 5-16 mm wide, all veins distinct, tips gradually narrowing to a point. Flowers scented. Flower spikes usually 40-50 mm long, 20–35 mm in diameter, creamy white or greenish to yellow. Individual flowers with 5 petals 2-3 mm long. Stamen filaments 12-15 mm long. New leaves pinkish. Flowers Spring.
