Woodland, grassy areas, disturbed sites and roadsides. Widespread. Common in the ACT and the Sydney area.
Introduced perennial herb to 1.5 m tall, hairless to hairy with short curly hairs. Stems grooved. Basal rosette leaves 7-30 cm long, 10-120 mm wide, margins toothed, or dissected and with toothed lobes, bases sheathing the stems, tips pointed. Stem leaves similar, alternating up the stems, gradually becoming smaller, to bract-like leaves. Flower heads blue, rarely white, with many ‘petals’ each 15-25 mm long, cylindrical below the 'petals'. Flower heads single or clusters of 2-3. Flowers withered by midday at least in the ACT. Flowers Spring to Summer.
