Urban bushland, woodland, roadsides, disturbed sites, and along streams. Mainly Sydney area south to Kiama and west to the Blue Mountains, ACT, and along the Hume Highwasy.
Introduced semideciduous shrub to 5 m high. Fruit fleshy. Young stems white hairy, becoming hairless. Leaves alternating up the stems, 1–4 cm long, 8–16 mm wide, upper surface dull,l hairless or slightly hairy, lower surface silvery- or white-hairy, tips pointed and mucronate. Flowers white, 7-10 mm in diameter, with 5 petals, in 6–20-flowered clusters. Flowers spring–summer. Fruit bright to dark red, 5-8 mm in diameter, with 2 'seeds'.
