Forest, woodland, grassy areas, old gardens, roadsides, disturbed sites, and along streams. Sporadic. Coast, Blue Mountains, and Canberra.
Introduced perennial herb, the leaves arising annually from the base, to 1 m tall. Stoloniferous. Flower stalks cylindrical, zig-zagged, hairless. Leaves basal and alternating up the stems, mostly clustered near the base of the plant, 30–80 cm long, 10–20 mm wide, midvein more or less prominent, outer leaves short and sheath-like. Flowers red-orange, tubular, the tube 12–18 mm long, with 6 spreading lobes each 18–20 mm long. Flowers in few-branched clusters, each branch 4–20-flowered. Flowers Dec.–Apr. Apparently not producing viable seed.
