Dry forest and heath, from Port Jackson to east of Rylstone.
Shrub to 2 m high. Stems hairy with short hairs, lying flat against the stems, especially when young, becoming hairless with age. Leaves usually crowded, 0.5–2.2 cm long, linear,roundor almostroundin cross section, surfaces smooth or sparsely hairy with wart-based hairs, tips with a short, narrow, often curved, point. Flowers yellow with red markings, pea shaped, with 5 petals, 2 joined together to form the keel. Standard petal 4-7 mm long. Calyx 4–7 mm long, tapering gradually towards the base. Flowers usually paired, in elongated clusters.
In all species of Dillwynia, the standard petal is much broader than long.
