Heath, moist gullies and forest. Coast, ranges, and the eastern edge of the tablelands, mostly north of west of Ulladulla, occasionally farther south.
Shrub to 2.5 m tall. Stems hairy with long hairs, spreading to pointing forwards. Leaves usually crowded, 0.5-2 cm long, linear, usually spirally twisted, flattened or triangular in cross section, tips with a short narrow point, surfaces hairless or with some long hairs. Standard petal 7-12 mm long. Flowers pea shaped, with 5 petals, 2 joined together to form the keel, yellow with red to brown markings. Flowers usually in pairs, in clusters often extendng well down the stems. Flowers most of the year.
In all species of Dillwynia, the standard petal is much broader than long.
