Dry forest on sandstone derived soils, mainly Sydney area and the mountains to the west.
Shrub to 1.5 m high. Branchlets thickly covered in erect rather rigid hairs. Leaves alternating up the stems, 1.8–4.3 cm long, compound, with 11–17, rarely to 27, leaflets each 0.4–0.9 cm long, 2–2.5 mm wide, margins rolled down, tips entire, surfaces densely hairy, the terminal leaflet small and lobe-like. Flowers male, female, or bisexual. Flowers with 0 petals, and 4 or 5 sepals 1.6–4.5 mm long, remaining on the plant at the seeding stage. Flowers in clusters, individual flowers single at the base of bracts or leaves. Seed case 4-winged, 14–21 mm long, 15.5–18 mm wide, rarely to 22 mm, usually hairless, wings 3.5–6 mm wide.
