Perennial herb or climber with a woody base, prostrate, sprawling, or to 1 m tall. Leaves 0.5-3 cm long, to 20 mm wide, alternating up the stems or opposite each other, hairless, scurfy when young, broadly triangular or linear, margins entire, tips pointed. Flowers 1 mm long, 1-2 mm in diameter, with 4-5 lobes. Fruit red, orange, or yellow, sometimes pink, in small clusters up the stems.
subsp. linifolia has linear leaves.
