Variety of habitats including woodland and along streams. Western Slopes.
Shrub or tree to 10 m tall. Regenerates from the roots after disturbance. Fruit dry. Bark finely flaky scaly. Stems hairless, often resinous. Leaves aromatic when rubbed, alternating up the stems, 2-6 cm long, 1-7 mm wide, hairless, somewhat sticky, usually with a hooked tip. Flowers white to cream, pinkish, or brown, 10–18 mm long, tubular, spotted inside the tube, the tube bell-shaped with five uneven lobes, in clusters of 2-3 flowers. Flowering: spring and sometimes autumn.
