Where found

Dry forest, woodland, and grassy woodland, often near streams. Western Slopes, Kosciuszko National Park, the mountains to the north, ACT, and tablelands. Occasionally farther east.

Notes

Tree to 25 m tall.  Bark rough, fibrous, usually tessellated ('box'), on the trunk and larger branches, mottled grey and white.  Smooth bark shedding in short ribbons.  Juvenile stems rounded in cross section, warty or smooth., usually glaucous.  Juvenile leaves stalkless, opposite each other for many pairs, then with short stalks and alternating up the stems, 2.5-10 cm long, 20-80 mm wide, glaucous.  Adult leaves alternating up the stems, 12–20 cm long, 15-25 mm wide, glossy, green.  Flowers white, with 0 petals.  Flower clusters 5-7 flowered.  Mature flower buds 5–8 mm long, caps at least as long as the base.  Flowers Summer-Autumn.  Gumnuts 4-8 mm in diameter.  Gumnuts that have dropped their seed have protruding valves.

Hybridises with Eucalyptus cinerea subsp. triplex.

All native plants on unleased land in the ACT are protected.
