Where found

Wet or grassy forests at higher altitudes. ACT, the mountains to the west, Kosciuszko National Park and nearby.

Notes

Tree to 90 m tall.  Bark rough on the lower part of the trunk, often furrowed, stringy or fibrous, grey, grey-brown or red-brown, to black, sometimes with horizontal black scars.  Smooth bark shedding in long ribbons, often with scribbles.  Branchlets glaucous or non-glaucous. Juvenile stems rounded in cross section, glaucous or non-glaucous.  Juvenile leaves opposite each other for 4 or 5 pairs, 7-25 cm long, 27-100 mm wide, green to blue-green and dull, or glaucous.  Adult leaves alternating up the stems, 7.5-25 cm long, 13-55 mm wide, green to blue-green, glossy.  Flower clusters 7-15 flowered.  Mature flower buds 4–6 mm long, caps shorter than the base.  Flowers Summer-Autumn.  Gumnuts 6-11 mm in diameter. Gumnuts that have dropped their seed have valves that are not very noticeable. 

All native plants on unleased land in the ACT are protected.
