Forest. Coast and ranges north from Deua National Park.
Tree or mallee to 20 m tall. Bark fibrous to stringy throughout, in long slabs with shallow furrows, grey or brown. Juvenile stems round or square in cross section. Juvenile leaves opposite each other for 3 to 6 pairs, then alternating up the stems, 6-20 cm long, 20-60 mm wide, dull to glossy, green, upper and lower surfaces different colours. Adult leaves alternating up the stems, 7-20 cm long, 13-60 mm wide, glossy, green, upper and lower surfaces different colours. Flowers white, with 0 petals. Flower clusters 3-7 flowered. Mature flower buds 11–23 mm long, caps at least as long as the base. Flowers Summer. Gumnuts 9-20 mm in diameter, often 2-ribbed longitudinally. Gumnuts that have dropped their seed have strongly protruding valves.
