Weed of pastures and crops. Mainly Western Slopes. Rarely elsewhere.
Introduced annual herb to 0.6 m high, spreading or erect. Stems glaucous, hairless. Leaves alternating up the stems, hairless, channelled, deeply dissected, the largest ultimate segments to about 4 mm long, to 1 mm wide. Flowers 5.5–7 mm long overall, with 2 broad sepals to 3 mm long, one on either side of the flower, which are shed early, and 4 petals (usually deep pink, darker at the tip, the inner petals with a yellow streak down the middle) forming 2 lips. Flowers in clusters. Flowering: winter to spring.
