Where found

Dry forest, woodland, and shrubland, in moist semi-shaded areas. Widespread.

Notes

Perennial climbing or scrambling herb, stoloniferous. Stems almost hairless or hairy. Leaves alternating up the stems, compound, with 3 leaflets, each 0.4-5 cm long, 1-9 mm wide, leaflets of the upper leaves narrower, 1.5–5 cm long, 1–6 mm wide; leaflets of the lower leaves wider, 0.4–5 cm long, mostly 2–9 mm wide. Leaflet surfaces hairy with short, white, appressed hairs. Small leaf veins obvious. Small stipules always present at the base of the stalks of the middle leaflets. Standard petal 4.5-8 mm long. Flowers pea shaped, with 5 petals, 2 joined together to form the keel, pinkish mauve to purple, sometimes white, in clusters of 5-13 flowers. Flowers all year.
