Introduced perennial herb to 0.8 m tall. Stems often grooved, usually hairless, sometimes bristly. Leaves in a rosette at the base of the plant, 2–30 cm long, 10-40 mm wide, bristly, rarely hairless, margins dissected to toothed or with slightly wavy margins, tips blunt. Flower heads below the 'petals' broad cylindrical, 5-15 mm in diameter, with many yellow ‘petals’, each 8-16 mm long. Flower heads single or in open clusters of a few flowers. Flowers most of the year.
