Moist gullies and near water. Widespread.
Perennial herb with a short rhizome. Flower stalks hairless, or sparsely appressed hairy below the flower heads, to 0.35 m high. Leaves basal, 1–8 cm long, 6–20 mm wide, margins wavy to toothed with pointed or blunt teeth, sparsely hairy to more or less hairless. Flower heads with 'petals' 1.5–2.5 mm long, white or mauve to purple, and yellow centres 3-4 mm in diameter. Flower heads behind the ‘petals’ 1.5-2.5 mm long. Flower heads single. Flowering: spring–summer.
