Damp areas in shrubland, grassy areas, herbfields, along streams, swamp margins, and in swamps, at high altitude. Kosciuszko National Park, the mountains to the north, ACT, tablelands, and western edge of the ranges.
Perennial herb with slender spreading rhizomes. Flower stalks to 0.25 m high, almost hairless except for appressed hairs below the flower head, and sometimes elsewhere. Leaves basal, 1.5-7 cm long, to about 15 mm wide, hairy to almost hairless, more or less entire or with 2–4 pairs of shallow teeth, the teeth and tips often with a small abrupt point. Sometimes leaves alternating up the flower stalks on the lower half of the stem and grading into bracts to about 1 cm long. Flower heads with 'petals' to 3 mm long, white, pink, mauve or purplish and yellow centres 3-5 mm in diameter. Flower heads single. Flowers mostly summer.
