Where found

In a wide range of non-arid habitats including near coastal, alpine, sub-alpine and plains country open forest, woodland, and grassland. Widespread.

Plants in the ACT previously named Podolepis jaceoides have now been determinedto e Podolepis decipiens.

Notes

Herb to 0.7 m tall, renewed annually from a perennial rootstock. Stems 1–several, erect, variously woolly or cobwebby. Basal leaves several in a sparse rosette, 3–20 cm long, 5–30 mm wide, stem leaves alternating up he stems, mostly 1–10 cm long, 2–15 mm wide, stalkless. Leaves entire, sparsely to densely hairy, rarely becoming hairless, margins flat to rolled down, bases stem clasping, tips pointed. Flower heads bright yellow or orange, with 20–40 'petals' 15–30 mm long, 3–5-toothed, centres with numerous florets. Flower heads hemispherical below the 'petals', mostly 20–40 mm in diameter, usually solitary. Flowers mostly August to February, depending upon altitude.

All native plants on unleased land in the ACT are protected.
