Dry forest, woodland, shrubland, grassland, and alpine herbfields. Widespread, except coastal only north frm Jervis Bay.
Plants in the ACT previously named Podolepis jaceoides have now been determinedto e Podolepis decipiens.
Perennial herb to 0.8 m high, arising annually from a thickened persistent rootstock. Stems woolly to almost hairless, unbranched. Leaves basal and alternating up the stems, 1-20 cm long, 2-20 mm wide, rough to becoming hairless, margins flat to rolled down, bases stem clasping. Basal leaves stalked, stem leaves stalkless. Flower heads with 20–50 yellow to orange 'petals' 10–30 mm long, deeply 3-5 toothed, and yellow centres with many florets. Flower heads mostly 20–40 mm in diameter below the 'petals', hemispherical to bell-shaped, Flower heads usually single, rarely 2-8 per stem. Flowering: winter-summer.
