Pastures, lawns, crops, gardens, waste ground, footpaths, and roadsides. Mainly Sydney area and round Wagga Wagga. Occasionally elsewhere.
Introduced annual or biennial herb to 1 m tall, hairless or with scattered long hairs. Leaves alternating up the stems, flat in cross section, hairy or hairless. Lower leaves 3-25 cm long, deeply dissected, margins toothed, upper leaves smaller, sometimes entire. Flowers yellow, with 4 petals each 2–4 mm long, in clusters at the tops of the stems, which elongate as the 'pods' mature. 'Pods' 2.5–6.5 cm long, less than 1 mm wide, with swollen portions, the sides thin walled and almost translucent; stalk 6–10 mm long, slender, spreading away from the stem. Flowers spring.
