Where found

Forest, grassy areas, disturbed moist sites, and along streams. Mostly coast and ranges, occasionally elsewhere.

Notes

Introduced shrub to 2 m high. Fruit fleshy. Young stems sparsely hairy, becoming hairless. Leaves alternating up the stems, rarely opposite each other, 3–10 cm long, 10–30 mm wide, hairless, thin and soft, margins entire and slightly wavy, tips pointed. Flowers white, 10–15 mm in diameter, deeply star-shaped with 5 lobes, in clusters of one to several flowers. Flowers mostly Spring to Autumn. Fruit bright orange to red, globular, 10–15 mm in diameter.
