Where found

Forest, woodland, and grassland, often persistent in lawns. Widespread. Rare on the coast and Western Slopes.

Notes

Perennial herb to 0.11 m high. Flower stalks robust, about 0.5-1 mm in diameter. Stems hairy to rough. Leaves basal, 1–11 cm long, 5–22 mm wide, surfaces sparsely to densely hairy, margins with 1–15 teeth, often confined to the upper half of the leaf, occasionally scalloped or wavy, tips blunt. Flower heads 3–7 mm in diameter, hemispherical. 'Petals' pale to magenta or purplish, minute. Flower heads single. Flowering: spring–autumn. Bracts appressed to the flower heads erect at the seeding stage.
