Perennial herb to 0.9 m high. Leaves alternating up the stems, appearing basal, 10-55 cm long, 2–15 mm wide, lower surface strongly warty with minute warts. Flowers with 6 'petals', deep blue or white or pale yellow, each 8–14 mm long. Flowers in open branched clusters extending beyond the leaves. Flowers Sep.–Jan.
Hybridizes with Thelionema umbellatum.
