Where found

Disturbed sites in dry forest, woodland, grassy areas, roadsides and other disturbed sites. Widespread.

Notes

Introduced annual herb to about 0.6 m high. Stems hairless or cobwebby. Leaves chiefly basal, 2-11 cm long, 5–20 mm wide, sometimes withering early. Stem leaves alternating up the stem, to 10 cm long and 10 mm wide. Lower leaves toothed to more or less lobed, upper leaves entire or toothed, uppermost leaves threadlike. Flower heads with many 'petals', outer 'petals' yellow, 4–5 mm long, inner 'petals' yellow, purple, or brownish. Flower heads behind the ‘petals’ 4-6 mm long, 4-6 mm in diameter. Flower heads in open clusters, appearing single. Flowering: mostly Sep.–Jan.
